In Mary E. Pearson’s timeless new trilogy about love and sacrifice, a princess must find her place in a reborn world. In a society steeped in tradition, Princess Lia’s life follows a preordained course. As First Daughter, she is expected to have the revered gift of sight—but she doesn’t—and she knows her parents are perpetrating a sham when they arrange her marriage to secure an alliance with a neighboring kingdom—to a prince she has never met. On the morning of her wedding, Lia flees to a distant village. She settles into a new life, hopeful when two mysterious and handsome strangers arrive—and unaware that one is the jilted prince and the other an assassin sent to kill her. Deception abounds, and Lia finds herself on the brink of unlocking perilous secrets—even as she finds herself falling in love. – Goodreads.com
First, let me say that I am not typically a fan of this genre; however, I could not put this book down! I read it in less than two days…and as a full time teacher, freelance writer and new mom, that’s saying a lot. I found myself reading on the elliptical machine, between classes, on my lunch break and late at night (and I don’t stay up late reading without good reason!) The only disappointment I have is the fact that the next book in the series won’t be out for quite some time. I look forward to the sequels! The twist that occurs in the middle of the book was both unexpected and appropriate! (No spoilers). I felt that the pacing of the novel was perfect, and switching the narration from Lia’s POV once in a while (to the assassin, prince, Kaden and Rafe) worked well.
This book comes out this summer, and it is totally worth pre-ordering! Visit Mary’s website at http://www.marypearson.com.
